Donald Trump Terminates Temporary Protected Status for Venezuelan Immigrants

According to a Federal Register notice posted by the Department of Homeland Security, Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem determined that conditions in Venezuela no longer meet the statutory requirements for TPS. The decision follows a review of the country’s conditions and consultation with interagency partners.

The termination of the 2021 TPS designation for Venezuela will take effect on November 7, 2025, at 11:59 p.m., which is 60 days after the publication of the Federal Register notice.

Aliens currently benefiting from the 2021 TPS designation for Venezuela are advised to prepare for their return to Venezuela if they do not have another lawful basis to remain in the United States. The notice also states that individuals can use the CBP Home mobile application if they plan to depart the country.
