Dominican airline Arajet officially began operations on its new route from the Dominican Republic to Puerto Rico, with an inaugural flight departing from Las Américas International Airport at 12:20 p.m. this Wednesday and landing at Luis Muñoz Marín Airport 40 minutes later.
With four weekly frequencies, operating on Mondays, Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays, this direct flight will connect Santo Domingo Airport and San Juan Airport, Puerto Rico, thereby consolidating commercial relations and reuniting the Dominican diaspora that resides on the neighboring island. Meanwhile, starting June 6, it will connect on a direct flight to San Juan and Punta Cana, with three weekly frequencies, on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.
The inaugural flight was attended by the Dominican Republic’s Minister of Tourism, David Collado, and Arajet CEO and Founder, Víctor Pacheco, who symbolically displayed the Dominican and Puerto Rican flags to mark the milestone in Arajet’s expanding continental network, now encompassing 28 destinations.
By 2025, these new routes will offer more than 88,000 seats, a significant portion of which were sold within the first 48 hours after ticket sales were announced in February.
A formal event was held at Luis Muñoz Marín Airport, attended by several dignitaries, including the Governor of Puerto Rico, Jennifer González, the San Juan Mayor, Miguel Romero, and the Executive Director of the Puerto Rico Tourism Company, Willianette Robles, among others.
The Minister of Tourism of the Dominican Republic, David Collado, emphasized the importance of air connectivity:
“It is vital for our country to continue improving air connectivity. That’s why we worked hard to sign the Open Skies Treaty with the United States, allowing airlines like Arajet to open key routes such as San Juan, Puerto Rico. They are also now offering flights to cities like Chicago, Boston, and Orlando; new routes that will boost tourism to the Dominican Republic.”
Addressing those present, Arajet CEO Víctor Pacheco Méndez expressed his enthusiasm for this new route and highlighted that the arrival of Arajet to Puerto Rico is the result of the entry of the Open Skies treaty between the United States and the Dominican Republic, that would not be possible without the unrestricted support received from the government of Puerto Rico and its governor Jennifer González, as well as the Dominican government in the person of both President Luis Abinader and Minister Collado, whom he thanked.
“It is a source of joy for us; this first flight to San Juan represents our commitment to offering efficient and affordable travel options to the Puerto Rican people. It connects this beautiful sister city with the entire continent and strengthens tourism and cultural exchange between our nations.” Pacheco Méndez affirmed.

“At the Puerto Rico Tourism Company, we are pleased to welcome the Arajet airline on its inaugural flight to the Island, which connects Santo Domingo and San Juan from today, June 4, 2025. A second direct flight between Punta Cana and San Juan will be added to this route on June 6. These new connections represent an important step to expand access alternatives and strengthen cultural, tourist, and commercial ties between Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic,” said the executive director of the Puerto Rico Tourism Company, Willian Roblesette Cancel.
“We are filled with enthusiasm with the arrival of Arajet at Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport, further strengthening the air connection between Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic, one of the busiest markets in the region. In the last year alone, about 700,000 passengers traveled between both destinations, a figure that reflects the deep economic, cultural, and family relationship that unites us. With these new routes, we open the door to more opportunities for exchange and growth for both peoples,” said Jorge Hernández, president of Aerostar Puerto Rico.
With this launch, Arajet will offer Puerto Ricans the opportunity to connect to 11 additional destinations through its hubs in Santo Domingo and Punta Cana, including Aruba, Jamaica, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Brazil, Chile, Argentina, Mexico, Colombia, and Peru, among others.
Arajet’s network continues to grow, with a projection to close 2025 serving 28 destinations across 17 countries, and offering over 250 connections throughout North, Central, and South America.
