Three fintech firms in Latin America — Bitso, Destacame, and Quotanda — took home $10,000 USD prizes at the recent Innotribe Startup Challenge in Mexico City. The event, conducted in partnership with SWIFT’s Latin America Regional Conference, was designed to find some of the best startups in the region, and the organization has high hopes for each of the winners.

Bitso is a two-year-old Mexican Bitcoin exchange, Destacame is a Chile-based startup that offers new ways to develop credit scores, and Quotanda is a digital student loan provider with offices in San Francisco, Mexico City, and Barcelona.

“No matter where they come from, fintech entrepreneurs always share enthusiasm for creating new concepts and passion when it comes to executing and successfully marketing their ideas,” said Fabian Vandenreydt, global head of the securities market for Innotribe. “It was great to run our first Startup Challenge in Latin America, strengthening collaboration between banks and the fintech community in the region, and to welcome a new group of promising companies to the Innotribe program.”

In addition to the monetary prizes, the three winners have been invited to participate in Sibos 2016 in Geneva from September 26-29. The annual event focuses on banking and securities, with this year’s conference giving specific attention to payments technology, industry disruptors, and financial crime compliance.

“We look forward to continuing our support to the three winners joining us at Sibos in Geneva later this year,” said Juan Martinez, SWIFT’s head of Latin American and the Caribbean.
