Dominican low-cost carrier Arajet transported 96,586 passengers in November 2024, according to data from the country’s Civil Aviation Board (JAC). The airline’s cumulative passenger count for the year surpassed one million, making Arajet the first Dominican airline to achieve this milestone within a single calendar year.
Arajet accounted for 7% of all travelers entering or departing the Dominican Republic in November. The airline also claimed 85% of passengers transported by Dominican carriers, carrying more than 25,000 passengers on connecting flights out of a total of 120,000 users.
Growth and Expansion at Punta Cana Airport
Arajet began operating from Punta Cana International Airport, significantly contributing to its rise as the most active Dominican airline. The carrier has experienced steady growth, with December passenger numbers projected to further reflect this trend. The JAC data positions Arajet as a key player in the Dominican Republic’s aviation sector, with a strong presence across multiple domestic airports.
Arajet’s most popular routes from Punta Cana include Buenos Aires, Argentina, and São Paulo, Brazil, while flights from Las Américas International Airport in Santo Domingo frequently serve Bogotá and Medellín, Colombia.
Leadership Perspective
Victor Pacheco Méndez, CEO, and Founder of Arajet, acknowledged the airline’s customers for their role in its success. “We are grateful to the passengers who have chosen Arajet for their travel needs, whether for tourism or business. This trust has positioned us as the fourth-largest airline in terms of passenger movement in the Dominican Republic,” Pacheco said.
He also reiterated Arajet’s commitment to offering competitive fares and quality service as part of its strategy to position the Dominican Republic as a regional air hub and bolster the local tourism industry. Arajet planned to close in 2024 with approximately 1.2 million passengers transported. Its growth strategy includes expanding routes from Punta Cana to destinations in Canada and South America. These efforts aim to consolidate Arajet’s position as a significant regional airline and support the Dominican Republic’s role in connecting travelers across the Americas.
