Dan Tapscott, Blockchain Experts to Gather in Dallas for Emerging Technologies Summit

The intersections between fintech, blockchain, and artificial intelligence will be examined at the upcoming Emerging Technologies Summit next month at the University of Texas in Dallas.

Among the leading experts at the event, which takes place from April 18-19, will be Dan Tapscott, author of The Blockchain Revolution: How the Technology Behind Bitcoin is Changing Money, Business, and the World. Though he sees many revolutionary aspects of blockchain, one key element is something has called “the trust protocol.”

Though bitcoin makes more headlines, the innovation of blockchain — which represents a digital ledger with perfect accuracy and an incorruptible history — is at its essence “a platform for everyone to know what is true” when it comes to “the way information is stored and transactions occur” in the financial world and beyond, wrote Tapscott in his book.

“It holds the potential for unleashing countless new applications and as yet unrealized capabilities that have the potential to transform many things.”

Others blockchain experts who will be on hand in Texas for the event include Shamoil Shipchandler of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, Wes Williams of Goldman Sachs, Mark Hopkins of the Roger Wilco Agency, and Hashgraph inventor Leemon Baird.

“Today’s thriving economies rely heavily on fintech — financial technology — yet few users understand its importance to daily transactions, such as online and mobile banking, and its connection to blockchain,” said Steve Guengerich, executive director of the UT Dallas Institute for Innovation and Entrepreneurship. “The goal of the summit is to bring together the pioneers in these areas, to build the ecosystem in the greater Dallas region and to enable the next generation’s new ventures.”
