Arajet, the flag carrier of the Dominican Republic, announced a restructuring of its baggage and service policies with the introduction of four new fare packages: Basic, Classic, Comfort, and Extra. The changes, available immediately on the Arajet website, are accompanied by modifications to baggage fees and weight limits, as well as the elimination of charges for counter check-in.
The airline confirmed it has reduced the pricing for registering luggage and additional bags, established fixed rates, and increased the allowed weight for some checked baggage.
Víctor Pacheco, Founder and CEO of Arajet, commented that the revisions are intended to simplify the purchasing process for travelers and enhance the overall experience. “We redesigned our packages to simplify the purchase decision and elevate the end-to-end travel experience,” Pacheco stated.
New Fare Package Structure
The new fare structure is segmented to cater to different traveler profiles:
- Basic: This package provides the lowest fare and includes one personal item with a weight limit of up to 6 kg.
- Classic: Targeted at business travelers, this package includes a personal item and a carry-on bag of up to 12 kg. It also permits flight changes with payment of the fare difference and an additional fee, along with seat selection.
- Comfort: Designed for leisure and vacation travelers, this option includes a personal item (up to 6 kg) and one checked bag. The weight allowance for the checked bag has been increased from 20 kg to 23 kg.
- Extra: This package, positioned for family travel, includes a personal item, a carry-on bag, and a checked bag. Benefits include unlimited flight changes (with payment of the fare difference), seat selection, and priority boarding.
Operational and Customer Service Modifications
In addition to the revised baggage allowances, Arajet has ceased charging passengers for check-in services conducted at the airport counter.
The carrier has also implemented operational changes, including group boarding and enhancements to customer service through WhatsApp, allowing passengers to handle inquiries, modifications, or cancellations more efficiently.
Arajet, which commenced operations in 2022, focuses on connecting destinations across North, Central, and South America, as well as the Caribbean, from its bases at Las Américas Airport in Santo Domingo and Punta Cana International Airport. The airline operates a Boeing (NYSE: BA) 737 MAX aircraft fleet. The carrier was recognized at the World Aviation Summit in 2023.
